5 Tips for Selling Insurance Through the Holidays

Boost holiday insurance sales with creative strategies. Use social media, personal messages, seasonal campaigns, community events, and post-holiday appointments for success.

Selling insurance through the holidays can be challenging. It is a time of year when much of the country turns to concerns of giving gifts, seeing relatives, and house cleaning for guests. People don’t always think about insurance during the holidays - or engage in activities that prompt them to get new insurance. Only a few people shop for lower rates, a house, or a new car.

Watching sales slow down at the end of the year can be stressful, but there are creative ways to generate leads. Participating in holiday events, meeting clients where they're at, and showing clients that you can go a long way toward boosting sales.

1. Change How You Reach Clients

Usually, available clients may be more challenging to reach during the holidays. They are too busy to sit by their computer or answer the phone. Instead, they're preparing to see family and friends. How can you reach them? Often through social media.

Hopefully, you already have a social media presence and are in the habit of posting on your social media accounts with regularity. Increase your posting, including well-wishes, re-posting of local human interest stories, and tips for ensuring adequate holiday insurance coverage.

Content with seasonal or holiday themes is more than welcome in many communities. In fact, for some people, it's hard to think of anything else. Know your audience and the kind of information that they will look for and care about. Produce relevant, engaging, and helpful content to capture your audience's attention.

2. Send Personal Messages to Clients and Potential Clients

Send your clients holiday cards to let them know you're thinking of them. Write personal messages and reference conversations with clients to show them you remember.

If you've had conversations with potential clients recently, send them cards too. Following up with leads by card can put insurance back on their mind and show potential clients that you take the time to give personal care to your customers. Even if they don't turn into clients, they'll remember who you are if you send them a small token of cheer at this time of year.

3. Start a Seasonal Advertising Campaign

Insurance matters at a time of year when people buy more things, drive long distances in their cars, or leave their houses alone while visiting relatives. Ensure customers remember the importance of good insurance over the holidays. Start a campaign - through social media, postcards, mailers, and online advertisements - to alert everyone to this critical issue.

4. Attend or Sponsor a Live Community Event

Many communities have live events over the holidays, from tree-lighting events to community fundraisers to parades. Often, these events allow local businesses to participate or act as sponsors. Sponsoring or supporting community events can increase client awareness of your business.

Whether you're staffing a table or a booth at an event or participating in a holiday parade, little things like this show that your business is invested in your community. Many people care about their community and want to support local businesses, so this is an excellent way to introduce your business to potential new clients.

5. Make Appointments for After the Holidays

Potential clients often have too much on their minds before the holidays to focus on insurance needs. Make a point of scheduling sales appointments on dates that fall after the holidays. Lining up appointments at the very end of the current year or the beginning of the new year will help you get back on track when clients have more time to make decisions about insurance.

Stop Worrying About Sales

You can become too focused on making sales. Burning yourself out trying to make sales goals can lead to unproductive feelings of stress and unhappiness.

If this is a slow time of year for your business, plan to focus on other activities, like engaging in professional development, developing new processes for handling clients, and training workers in the office.
